What is Pilates?
Pilates is an innovative and safe form of exercise, suitable for all levels. It lengthens and stretches all the major muscle groups to establish a perfect working body from the inside out. Pilates builds strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine, improving balance and body awareness. The method focuses on strengthening the core (deep muscles of your abdomen, back and hips) while balancing the muscles of the body to create better alignment.
Because of its core focus, Pilates is popular not only in the field of fitness, but also in rehabilitation. Often injury, pain or discomfort comes from imbalance within the body and faulty movement patterns. Pilates works towards creating a more balanced relationship between the muscles and joints, which can relieve a lot of general aches and pains. The focus on strengthening the core and improving postural awareness are especially well indicated for the alleviation and prevention of back, neck and joint pain.
